I've been in this online personal brand/monetization space on Twitter for the past 10 months...
And there are some blatantly clear things I see now that I couldn't when I started this journey.
So here it is, the 7 pieces of advice on biz/personal brand that no one talks about:
1) 90% of the battle is destroying your limiting beliefs
The blueprint to starting a biz is simple.
What’s hard are the mental challenges the biz throws at you.
Destroy your limiting beliefs and you’ll be surprised how much faster you can go.
2) Survivorship bias is real
All you see on your feed are the people who stuck it through when they saw 0 results.
And now they make $$ and have a big audience.
What you don’t see are the 1,000s of people who tried but gave up.
You should be proud of even staying in the game.
3) Build your network FIRST
If you don’t know what business to start, go meet more people.
You'll get more insight into what you like or don’t like.
I wanted to do email marketing when I first started.
Now I’m ghostwriting.
And I might do something else later.
Who knows.
4) There are levels to the game
The guys at the top are playing a completely different game to us.
They’re solving different problems at a different scale.
Figure out step 1 before you try step 10.
Strategies change all the time but the fundamentals stay the same.
5) Be careful listening to popular guru advice
The danger of listening to the same 3 people is that their strategies get overused FAST.
It might have worked for them but over time, you’ll get lost in the sea of NPCs.
When everyone goes one way, go the other.
6) Working smart beats working hard
No one cares how many hours you put into your biz.
If you’re working on biz models that:
Don’t scale
Have low margins
Require high capital
It’s gonna be way harder to grow it.
Find biz models with low start-up costs and high leverage.
7) To win, stay in the game
There's no secret sauce to success.
Just stay in the game longer than anyone else.
Instead of optimizing for “how much money you can make now”,
Optimize for “how long can you play the game”.
Once you do that, you’ll be unstoppable.
I wanted to give a raw perspective of my observations of playing this game for the last 10 months.
Being consistent is tough but it's 100% worth it.
And before you go...
Here's an unreal bento box I had yesterday with my friend Kaz.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this as always.
See ya next week.

Every week, I share key lessons I've learned about building creator-led businesses from my own content marketing agency as well as lessons from the clients that I work with.
One of the most powerful mindset shifts I've learned recently is the ability to play long-term games when it comes to money/business. For example, when building an agency, the short term mindset would be to keep as much money as possible, whether that's doing everything yourself, or paying employees as little as possible. Let's say you're making $20k/month and have an 80% margin on it ($16k/mo profit). Now the short-term view would be "let me just keep on doing everything myself" or "hire a...
One thing I’ve started to realize blatantly clearly is that the success of a business is inversely proportional to the number of beliefs you hold. It was never about the tactics. The how to get rich quick schemes. Why? Because they all work. You call them a scam because they didn’t work FOR YOU. Minor difference there. Every single thing that you’ve pursued and failed at was never down to the lack of knowledge. You already know this but knowledge can be found everywhere if you look hard...
You came to X to build your personal brand because you saw so many others before you built their audience successfully and made good money from it. So you decide to go all in and build your brand too. Doesn’t look too hard right? You post and post and post…and nothing… 2 months go by and you get demotivated and give up. “Maybe this isn’t for me”. So you take a break and go back to working the 9-5 you hate or the college where you struggle to pay attention to in any class. Another month goes...
